Glynwood Farm

GLYNWOOD FARM

Cold Spring, NY

Originally established as a family farm in 1923, Glynwood now leads initiatives to ensure that food and farming thrive in the Hudson Valley of New York. Having outgrown the historic farm site plan, SKOLNICK was engaged to help the organization reimagine the site program and facilities usage to better serve the needs of diverse constituents including working farmers, food and farm professionals, and farm community members.

UNDERSTANDING USERS

Working with the board, staff, and key family members, SKOLNICK executed a front-end evaluation to better understand the needs and desires of the farm’s target users and determine how the current site could be improved. The analysis of this data resulted in a re-zoning of the Glynwood campus, to form three sections: an area for public engagement and administration, a place for professional gatherings, and a working farm.

OLD MEETS NEW

The Master Planning process also identified project recommendations including adaptive reuse of select historic buildings, new “green” administrative offices, and improved site features to modernize the facilities and farm over a series of phased upgrades.

SKOLNICK guided us through an immersive visioning, evaluation, design exploration and thoughtful planning process that took us from what we knew to the creation of a fresh Interpretive Master Plan. SKOLNICK demonstrated an uncanny ability to listen to the needs of our Board, Staff, and Constituent Groups – assess and distill the essential issues at hand, and then provided us with design concepts and a refined vision for our future that offered both strategic and creative approaches for us to further our efforts at realizing our mission.
