Off The Wall

OFF THE WALL

New York, NY

“Off the Wall” was an SEGD (Society for Experiential Graphic Design) exhibition designed by SKOLNICK that was displayed in the gallery storefront of the AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts). The concept for the installation was to move graphic design from its traditional two-dimensional plane to a three-dimensional environment. From the title of the exhibition, which transforms from 2D to 3D on the storefront windows, to the environmental installations inside, “Off the Wall” embodies this concept.

A 3D GRAPHICS EXPERIENCE

The goal of the exhibit was to display award-winning SEGD projects as well as the dialogue between designers and users. The gallery's rear space was the most intimate and most appropriate for this kind of dialogue. Project images were printed within stripes at eye level, forcing the viewer to focus in close. As these images “peeled” off the walls, a void was left behind in the form of a bright orange wall. Here, visitors could find information about the projects.
