THE NATIONAL LIGHTHOUSE MUSEUM

Staten Island, NY

Located on the historic site of the US Lighthouse Service’s main depot in St. George, Staten Island, the National Lighthouse Museum invites visitors to explore the history and technology of our nation’s lighthouses. Beginning in 2000, SKOLNICK developed an Interpretive Master Plan for the museum’s sprawling campus, calling for careful historic restoration and renovation of a number of buildings, site interpretation, and engaging interpretive experiences. After the opening of the inaugural exhibit in 2014, SKOLNICK was invited back to develop a new Interpretive Plan for the site in 2017.

LIGHTING THE WAY

The National Lighthouse Museum’s exhibits celebrate and interpret the history, technology, and people of American lighthouses. Following a phased approach to upgrades and renovations, the museum aspires to become a must-see destination just steps away from the Staten Island Ferry.

A REFINED VISION

In 2017, SKOLNICK was invited back to develop a new Interpretive Master Plan for the site and the National Lighthouse Museum. The project is currently in the fundraising stage.

SKOLNICK has remained committed and engaged partners over the years. Their dedication and design excellence enabled us to realize our headquarters and museum in 2015 in one of the original campus buildings, which received the Staten Island Building Design Award for Best Interior. The SKOLNICK team has been amazing to work with and we look forward to our continued relationship.
